Keeping your dogs away from fleas and ticks is one of the main ways of keeping it healthy. When your dog has a flea infestation, it is very irritating for you and your dog. The best way to get rid of fleas and ticks on your dogs is through consulting a vet first. Along with over the counter medications, you can treat your dog with some home remedies to keep away fleas and ticks.
Here are some simple home remedies to get rid of fleas and ticks in dogs:
1. Apple cider vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is an excellent flea repellent. The first step is to make a mixture of apple cider vinegar combined with water. You can either spray this mixture or dab it on a cloth to wipe your dog. You can even add 1/2 a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar to your dog’s water bowl which increases acidic level on your dog’s skin. This helps in keeping your dog away from ticks. Here are the steps to make the mixture and application:
Take 1 portion of apple cider vinegar and 1 portion of water. Mix it well before you pour it into a clean spray bottle. Spay it all over your dog’s body and avoid its eyes and open wounds. Let the fur dry. If your dog does not like the smell of strong vinegar, dilute the vinegar with water at the ratio of 1:3. You can also wipe your dog with a washcloth soaked in this mixture if he does not like the spray technique. Repeat the process for a few days. This is one of the best home remedies to get rid of fleas and ticks in dogs.
2. Coconut oil
Coconut oil has many benefits apart from just keeping your dogs away from fleas and ticks. It also helps in hydrating and soothing their skin making it look shiny and healthy. Take some coconut oil and gently massage the oil on your dog’s coat to spread the oil evenly. Comb your dog’s hair soon after the massage. By doing this, you can get rid of the flees immediately. This procedure needs to be done outdoor as the fleas may jump or fall off your dog during the process. This method can be followed once a week. You can also make a mixture of coconut oil with water and spray it on your dog before you take them outdoor. Spraying can be done daily and make sure you rub the skin after the spray for the oil to work well.
3. Sunbathe your dogs regularly
Fleas, the blood-sucking vampires, do not love the sun. If your dog is infested with a serious flea attack or you want to keep them away from flea, sunbathing your dog is one of the cheapest and easiest home remedies.
